   All About Us - Mission, Attitudes & Activities


Mission

The Positive Life is a functioning, learning and enabling non-governmental organization established to respond to the emerged social issues in Iran and through recognizing human rights and dignity of the affected people and vulnerable persons, using cultural and faith-based principles and following scientific evidence is trying to define problems and making solutions.

The Organization believes that for control we should take advantage of all social, economic and cultural capacities and to respond to the needs and concerns of all community groups appropriately. Successive evaluation of activities is critical in this way.

The Positive Life is trying to empower its members and other people and to participate affected people in leading and implementation of activities and utilizes latest technologies and media effectively for achieving its goals.

Main activities are advocacy, information dissemination, peer education, prevention and harm reduction.
The HIV/AIDS activities started in 2003 as voluntary advocacy and IEC activities by the founders and the institute has been officially registered in 2005.

 

Iranian Positive Life (Zendegi Mosbat)

The HIV/AIDS activities started in 2003 as voluntary advocacy and IEC activities by the founders and the institute has been officially registered in 2005.


Summary of activities:

  1. Sessions for high school students with participation of PLHIVs as facilitators. These sessions consist of basic information on HIV/AIDS, high risk behaviors, prevention principles, real stories of living with HIV/AIDS, and responding to the students’ questions. A music performance by PLHIV is included as an ice-breaker and also for reducing stigma towards PLHIV.

  2. Sessions for parents and teachers of guidance schools with participation of PHIV as facilitators. These sessions consist of basic information on HIV/AIDS, prevention principles, high risk behaviors, importance of life skills and HIV/AIDS education, real stories of living with HIV/AIDS, and responding to the questions.

  3. Sessions for university students with participation of PHIV as facilitators. These sessions consist of basic information on HIV/AIDS, high risk behaviors, prevention principles, real stories of living with HIV/AIDS, and responding to the students’ questions.   4. Preparation, design and printing of leaflets and posters for different target groups according to needs assessments by Iranian Positive Life IEC team. The intention is to develop information packages which will address HIV/AIDS as well as to help preventing any stigma and discrimination towards PLHIV, giving adequate information and knowledge without creating any fear of HIV/AIDS.
    • A poster and leaflet specially designed for WAD 2005 messaging women and AIDS, Children and AIDS, Stigma and discrimination amongst PLHIV, methods of transmission, prevention education. These materials were developed, designed and printed by Zendegi Mosbat and other NGOs participated in the project and their logos were added as a sign of commitment to the 2005 slogen “ Make the promis, keep the promise”.

  5. Launching a Farsi website (www.zendegimosbat.org) and a Yahoo Group (online community) for information dissemination and HIV/AIDS education and also a website in English about AIDS in Iran (www.persiaplus.org). These website are regularly updated and have been pre-tested to be user friendly and interactive and to be able to communicate with young people.

  6. Organizing and launching HIV/AIDS events and campaigns, collaboration with other organizations and NGOs for such activities and giving consultation for international HIV/AIDS campaigns , such as World AIDS Day, Memorial day, The International Children and AIDS Campaign (Launched by UNICEF)

    • Zendegi Mosbat collaborated with UNICEF in the launch of the Children and AIDS campaign in Iran. Several interested bodies such as UNAIDS and MoH and Celebrities and Football clubs and NGOs participated in this campaign.     • One of the critical issues for HIV/AIDS education is to get everybody in the family and specially parents sensitized and involved, fun family events is one of the many ways to implement such educational programmes which will play a definite role in preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS to the next generation. Zendegim Mosbat in collaboration with Amitab NGO and the municipality organized a fun kite festival in a public park at a weekend to address the importance of HIV/AIDS knowledge and education for children to their parents through an interactive and fun event.

     

  7. Inter active HIV/AIDS education

    Facilitating educational sessions in workshops and seminars on issues such as sensitization, HIV/AIDS and life skills, Human rights in HIV/AIDS, Voluntary councelling and testing basics, peer education, group therapy, HIV/AIDS in the workplace and …

  8. Advocacy at the highest level, many sessions with Parliamentarians, MoH officials, MoE, Municipality and city council members, civil society and NGOs.

    • Assisting in the introductory session on the Children and AIDS campaign launched by UNICEF, for Tehran City Council members.
    • Introductory sessions at IRIB for advisors to the Chairman of IRIB.
    • Information education for school health teachers at MoE district 14 office in Tehran.

  9. Zendegi Mosbat has also a representative in the CCM committee for the Global fund programme in Iran and also has represented civil society NGOs in the work meeting with Commission on social determinants of health which visited Iran in January 2006.

  10. This institute also cooperates with Ministry of Health and Medical Education and also other institutions in studies and research on HIV/AIDS.

    • Member of the research team for identifying and the core indicators of HIV/AIDS in Iran, UNGASS 2006, MoH-UNAIDS. (To be published)
