   Iran's Response to HIV/AIDS

Positive Club (HIV+ people club)

For the first time in Iran, Positive Club is created by the effort of HIV+ people in Tehran. This club is created to join HIV+ people, respond to their needs and solve their problems, both therapeutic and Psychic problems.

This club that all of its constituency and directorate members are HIV+ people, serves therapeutic, consultative and amusing services.

Heads of ministry of health (Islamic republic of Iran), active NGOs in HIV/AIDS section and also the chairman of the Center of HIV/AIDS services of Iran, were in the opening ceremony (Imam Khomeini Hospital, Tehran - August 6, 2006).

Family Planning Association (NGO)  and ZenegiMosbat Iranian( NGO) in a co-operation, published the "Nedaye Salamat (Health Voice)" newsletter, which contains the latest news, reports and changes in HIV/AIDS related areas in Iran. 

 

Community-Based HIV/AIDS Prevention Project for Most-at-risk Children, Youth, and Women  (MARCY+W)  Tehran – Iran

This project contains some workshops that would be held in different cities in Iran. Zendegi Mosbat Iranian (NGO) is responsible to hold these workshops in North of Tehran.

Project Results: By 2006,

  1.  High risk area officials and other stakeholders sign MOU/A to support peer outreach education (POE) and adolescent friendly services (AFS) for HIV/AIDS prevention.

  2. HIV/AIDS prevention services and other AFS are integrated in social and health services.

  3. Identified gaps in KAP of MARCY+W are targeted by POE interventions and AFS.

  4. MARCY+W access HIV/AIDS prevention services and other AFS.

Project Activities:

   Advocacy & Social Mobilization

  • Identify and recruit high risk areas for POE and AFS  for HIV/AIDS prevention
  • Advocate for the integration or strengthening of HIV/AIDS prevention services and other AFS in social and health services
  • Conduct special HIV/AIDS activities

 

    Capacity Building

  • Assess structures, facilities, and human resources for HIV/AIDS prevention services and other AFS
  • Integrate or strengthen HIV/AIDS prevention services and other AFS
  • Develop/improve POE system for HIV/AIDS prevention and referrals to AFS, including POE, AFS, and other training

 

   Empowerment

  • Develop/improve core HIV/AIDS prevention and behaviour change communication (BCC) messages, including messages on accessing AFS
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate POE activities, including referrals to AFS

 

 

   provision of Services

  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate delivery of AFS, including HIV/AIDS prevention services
